Dubai, UAE: To mark the start of the new year, Rixos Premium Dubai’s Quality and Sustainability team recently visited the Stray Dog Center (SDC) in Umm Al Quwain, delivering essential supplies and custom-made comforts to support the non-profit’s mission of rescuing and rehabilitating neglected animals across the Emirates.

Waste to Warmth: A Circular Economy Success

At the heart of this visit was a unique sustainability project that combined environmental conservation with animal care. The team successfully diverted 605 kg of end-of-life hotel textiles from landfills, transforming them into 50 handcrafted dog beds.

By giving these discarded materials a second life, the project not only provided warmth for rescue animals but also achieved significant environmental benchmarks: Waste Reduction where over half a tonne of textiles repurposed into functional products; Carbon Impact, avoided approximately 0.27-0.30 tonnes of $CO_2e$ emissions through responsible resource management; Circular Strategy, establishing a model for textile upcycling that Rixos plans to implement across all its UAE properties.

“Sustainability is about caring for all the lives we share the planet with,” said Ozgul Aktolga, Director of Quality and Sustainability at Rixos Hotels. “By turning waste into warmth, we made a heartfelt difference. This initiative will now become a regular practice across all Rixos Hotels in the UAE.”

Supporting the Stray Dog Center’s Mission

The Stray Dog Centre, founded in 2013, operates under a strict “no kill” policy and is currently home to approximately 1,500 rescue dogs. Since its inception, the centre has successfully rehomed more than 6,000 animals both locally and internationally.

The Rixos team’s contribution which included food, toys, and the upcycled bedding directly supports the centre’s ongoing efforts to provide medical care and rehabilitation to animals often found in critical condition.

Looking Ahead: A Year of Impact

This visit serves as a catalyst for Rixos Premium Dubai’s 2026 sustainability agenda. The hotel aims to inspire positive change by demonstrating how operational excellence can intersect with community service. Moving forward, the brand will continue to expand its educational and charitable partnerships, ensuring that its presence in the UAE remains synonymous with responsible and compassionate luxury.
