At the heart of this visit was a unique sustainability project that combined environmental conservation with animal care. The team successfully diverted 605 kg of end-of-life hotel textiles from landfills, transforming them into 50 handcrafted dog beds.
By giving these discarded materials a second life, the project not only provided warmth for rescue animals but also achieved significant environmental benchmarks: Waste Reduction where over half a tonne of textiles repurposed into functional products; Carbon Impact, avoided approximately 0.27-0.30 tonnes of $CO_2e$ emissions through responsible resource management; Circular Strategy, establishing a model for textile upcycling that Rixos plans to implement across all its UAE properties.
“Sustainability is about caring for all the lives we share the planet with,” said Ozgul Aktolga, Director of Quality and Sustainability at Rixos Hotels. “By turning waste into warmth, we made a heartfelt difference. This initiative will now become a regular practice across all Rixos Hotels in the UAE.”
