Dubai, UAE: Dubai’s specialty coffee and dining landscape continues to evolve, moving away from high-traffic commercial hubs toward intimate, design-led neighbourhood destinations. This curated list explores the spaces defining the current “slow-living” movement across the Emirates.
Linea, Umm Suqeim 3
Located at Villa 827-B on Umm Suqeim Street, Linea is a minimalist’s retreat defined by clean lines, neutral tones, and expansive glass. The design invites natural light to dominate the space, creating a quiet environment favoured by residents for remote work or a refined morning brew. The experience focuses on the “science” of coffee, offering a technical specialty menu alongside artisanal pastries. Its outdoor seating area provides a peaceful neighbourhood vibe, making it a distinct alternative to the city’s busier hospitality hubs.
Daniel’s Room, Dubai Mall
Situated within Fashion Avenue (Level 2), Daniel’s Room is a long-awaited concept by contemporary artist Daniel Arsham. Rather than a traditional restaurant, the space is positioned as a lived-in artwork. Arsham personally designed the environment—including the furniture, lighting, and tableware, treating the project as a permanent installation. The atmosphere is restrained and considered, functioning as both a café and a cultural destination. The menu remains intentionally simple, focusing on specialty coffee and light bites that match the space’s relaxed rhythm.
Mondoux, Bluewaters Island
Mondoux has established its latest branch on Bluewaters Island, designed in collaboration with celebrated architects to create a “serene oasis.” The interior features reflective glass tiles on the walls and ceiling that mirror the views of Dubai Marina and JBR, while curved walls offer privacy. The brand emphasizes “slow-living” and quality ingredients, with a menu featuring grilled chicken breasts, basil beef, and brioche French toast. The venue includes a veranda for alfresco dining and a bar experience that showcases the culinary process.
Saddle Café, Al Barsha
Saddle has expanded its community-focused footprint with a new opening at The Grove, Al Barsha. Known for its modern interpretation of Emirati hospitality, this venue serves the surrounding residential community and schools. The all-day menu includes signature breakfast items like Eggs Benedict and Crème Brûlée French Toast, alongside new pasta additions such as Truffle Pasta and Alfredo Pasta. The specialty coffee programme remains a core pillar, featuring an extensive Matcha Collection and signature Spanish Lattes.
Backyard, Dubai Hills Estate
Nestled within Dubai Hills, Backyard is designed to feel like an extension of a home garden. It prioritises a family-friendly and pet-friendly environment, contrasting warm, leafy aesthetics with the modern architecture of the estate. The menu is broader than a standard coffee shop, offering wholesome breakfast items and acai bowls. The spacious terrace overlooks the greenery of Dubai Hills, positioning it as a popular destination for weekend brunches and outdoor socialising.
Unusual, One Central
Located in the high-energy One Central district near the Dubai World Trade Centre, Unusual is an avant-garde “concept café.” The interior features metallic accents and bold architectural shapes, functioning as a high-end specialty coffee bar by day and a sophisticated social space by evening. Tailored for the corporate crowd, the menu features creative signature lattes and fusion snacks. A unique retail corner is also on-site, stocking limited-edition lifestyle items and niche coffee accessories.
Kanso, Al Shindagha
